When you hear “Laganas,” you might immediately picture lively beach bars, neon lights, and music thumping into the early hours. And yes, the resort on the stunning Greek island of Zakynthos has long been a magnet for the younger party crowd. But don’t be too quick to judge— Laganas, Zante, has a whole other side that’s perfect for couples looking to escape the daily grind and unwind by the sea.
Having just returned from a serene week in Laganas with my husband this past May (with no teenagers in tow), I can confidently say this gem has so much more to offer than its party reputation suggests. So, if you’re a couple craving a quick, sunny getaway with a short flight time (just 3.5–4 hours from the UK), read on.
Sunshine, Sea, and Scenery
Laganas enjoys warm, sunny weather from spring through autumn, making it an ideal spot for a last-minute break or a planned romantic retreat. Visiting around May or October —means fewer crowds, lower prices, and just the right buzz without the mayhem.
The beach itself stretches for an impressive 7km, with soft golden sands and shallow, warm waters that invite you to kick off your shoes and stay a while. Whether you’re relaxing under a parasol or strolling hand-in-hand along the water's edge, it's a soothing change of pace that naturally invites you to slow down and switch off.
Beach Bars & Blissful Bites
One of our favourite parts of the trip was the beach bars and restaurants dotted along the 7K stretch of beach. It’s incredibly easy to spend the afternoon hopping from one to the next (which we did) sipping on the mimosa's and cold Mythos beer while watching the world go by (and in our case the last football game of the season).
Many spots are open-air, decked out in neutral tones with boho-chic vibes—think hammocks, lanterns, and lounge cushions that beg you to linger. A few personal favourites include:
Kalamaki Beach Taverna – Perfect for watching the planes coming in and leaving Zakynthos airport and of course sharing a slice of Baklava

Horizon Restaurant – perfect for an afternoon drink on the beach, the Mimosa's here are amazing, you must try one!

Seaside Beach Bar – Enjoy an evening meal of a Greek Mezze

Things to Do for Chilled Days Out
While Laganas, itself is enough to keep you happy for a few days, there are some lovely activities nearby if you fancy a bit more adventure:
Boat Trip to Marathonisi (Turtle Island): Home to nesting loggerhead turtles, the island is just a short boat ride away and has a real deserted island feel.
Sunset at Keri Lighthouse: A short drive away and ideal for couples—grab a drink and watch the sun dip into the sea.
Zakynthos Town: For a half-day trip, explore the island’s capital for a mix of shops, cafes, and culture, you can get the Fun Train

Laganas, Zante, Greece - Perfect for a Short-Haul Escape
With flights from the UK taking just under four hours, and plenty of affordable options for hotels, Laganas, Zante, is the kind of place you can book on a whim. Whether it’s a spontaneous long weekend or a week-long break, it delivers that much needed sun that you crave, “reset your mind” feeling without the jet lag.
If you're worried about the party scene, don't be. Simply choose your travel dates wisely. Visit in spring or early autumn, and you’ll enjoy a tranquil, romantic getaway—just like we did. We went on the 17th of May for 7 nights and found this was the week before everything opened fully so idea if you still want a few clubs but nothing that's too "in your face and loud".
So, in a nutshell, Laganas isn’t just for twenty-somethings in search of a party. It’s also for couples like us, looking to reconnect, relax, and enjoy the simpler pleasures: a good meal with a sea view, a peaceful beach walk, and the kind of sunset that stays with you long after the holiday ends.
So next time you're dreaming of a quick escape to the sun, don’t overlook this surprising Greek gem. Laganas might just become your new go-to for romantic downtime.
